How we verify organizations

The Verified badge marks nonprofit immigration organizations that meet ImmiMap's review standards. We publish these criteria so families and advocates can understand what the label means — and what it does not.

Verification criteria

An organization receives the Verified badge only when it meets all of the following standards. Law firms and private practices are listed separately and are not eligible for this badge.

  1. 01

Recognized nonprofit or legal aid status

The organization operates as a registered nonprofit, accredited legal aid provider, or equivalent publicly recognized immigration support entity — not as an unregulated immigration consultant or fee-for-service scam operation.

  2. 02

    Active immigration services

The organization currently offers immigration legal representation, case assistance, or direct social services to immigrant communities. Defunct programs, placeholder listings, or organizations outside immigration work are not verified.

  3. 03

    Confirmable contact details

Public contact information — including address and website — is current and matches what appears on the organization's official channels or government registries.

  4. 04

    Alignment with public records

Listing details are cross-checked against authoritative sources such as IRS nonprofit records, state bar or legal aid directories, and Department of Justice recognition lists where applicable.

  5. 05

    Manual ImmiMap review

Every Verified organization is individually reviewed by the ImmiMap team before the badge is applied. Automated data alone is not sufficient for verification.

Our review process

Verification is performed during initial cataloging and re-checked during regular data refreshes. If an organization no longer meets these standards, the Verified badge is removed until the listing is corrected or reconfirmed.

What Verified does not mean

A Verified badge is not a guarantee of case outcome, attorney-client relationship, or availability for new clients. It indicates that ImmiMap has confirmed the organization's nonprofit standing and active immigration services at the time of review. Always contact the organization directly to confirm intake status, eligibility, and fees.

Questions about a listing?

If you believe a Verified badge was applied in error or an organization no longer meets these standards, contact us at support@immimap.org. We review all good-faith reports and update listings when evidence supports a change.
